The NextWave NW2200 is a family of single-chip radio frequency transceivers designed specifically for use with the NextWave NW2100 family of WiMAX (802.16e) baseband processors. The chip is a highly integrated, multi-band capable RF analog transceivers that operates in TDD and HFDD mode in the 1.7/2.1, 2.3 – 2.7, and 3.3 – 3.8 GHz bands.
The NW2200 features two independent receive paths for outstanding receive diversity in multiple-antenna mode of operations. It supports RF channel bandwidths of 1.75, 2.5, 3.5, 4.375, 5, 7, 8.75, 10, and 20 MHz. The differential DC-coupled I&Q outputs are performance matched to the NW2100 family of baseband processors.
The NW2200 hosts a series of integrated functionalities aimed at reducing external component count: a direct-conversion architecture, integrated low-noise amplifiers, integrated low-dropout voltage regulators (enabling the use of a single external power supply), and the ability to operate with any of the 19.2, 20, 26, 38.4, or 40 MHz reference clocks, make the NW2200 ideally suited for lower cost, smaller footprint designs.
The NW2200 also integrates transmit power detection for calibration assist, circuitry to detect internal temperature and battery supply voltage variations, and supports a variety of modes of operation and along with associated power states aiming at minimizing the system power consumption without affecting system performance.
The NW2200 hosts a flexible linearity mode which is dynamically configured independently for each of the two receive chains, guaranteeing the best trade-off between performance and power consumption depending on the presence of non-WiMAX interferers (e.g. 802.11b/g radios).
The NW2200 is offered in a 68-lead QFN package and is available in several variants to support different frequency band requirements. It is ideally suited for high-volume, small form-factor wireless broadband subscriber stations including laptops, PDAs, CPE modems, PC card modems, multimode/smartphone handsets, and mobile multimedia terminals.
