Finally, by pooling their TDD spectrum and sharing a common TDtv network, UMTS operators can further reduce the cost of offering industry-leading mobile TV services.

The Performance Advantage
TDtv is highly spectrum-efficient and can deliver up to fourteen high-quality, 300 kbps broadcast channels using only 5 MHz of unpaired 3G spectrum. In addition, TDtv can also deliver digital audio or other IP datacast services to enhance a network operator’s service offerings.

The Spectrum Advantage
Only TDtv allows UMTS operators to leverage their existing unpaired 3G spectrum to address the rapidly growing mobile TV market. TDtv currently operates in the universal unpaired 3G spectrum bands available across Europe and Asia at 1900 MHz and 2010 MHz. In the future we plan to offer TDtv solutions in other frequency bands including the 2.5 GHz band. In addition, TDtv supports spectrum pooling where two or more operators combine their unpaired 3G spectrum to double or triple the number of offered TV channels.

The Control Advantage
Other mobile broadcast solutions require UMTS operators to partner with broadcasters for the actual delivery of content. This can result in reduced operator revenues and loss of control of the end-user experience. TDtv allows operators to maintain full control of the end-user experience and an opportunity to maximize customer ARPU.

The WCDMA Integration Advantage
As a 3GPP MBMS standard based solution, TDtv can be easily integrated with WCDMA on both the network and device side – unlike other mobile TV technologies. TDtv base stations are designed to be easily co-sited with existing 3GPP infrastructure and TDtv chipsets are designed to add only minimal cost to a WCDMA handset. In addition, TDtv can be integrated at the core network level to reduce the cost of billing and back office integration.

The Mobility Advantage
Mobility is a critical factor in driving mainstream adoption of mobile TV services. As a 3GPP standard, TDtv inherently supports seamless handover and high-speed mobility.
